A merry Beltane everyone, and a Blessed Samhain to our friends in the Southern Hemisphere.

I'm off to spend Beltane with my coven.  But it looks like the Maypole is right out this year since it's supposed to be thunder and lightning all day.  Tall poles that attract lightning are just soooo not happening!

I do hope the storms didn't dampen your Beltaine celebration. I hope you had a joyous time.

I hear that, Lark!  We have a monster storm moving over us as well.

Since Beltane has been a problem sabbat for me since 2003, I decided to 're-time' it this year as a trial of reclaiming it for myself.

We used to celebrate when the apple tree bloomed----since we harvested apples at Samhain, cross circle of the year.  This year, that apple blossomed at mid-April!  So, I will give it a hawthorn timer trial this year!  I must get myself busy on a craft of making 3-D paper dragons, red and white to "fight" above the bonfire.

Hawthorne is actually a perfect timer.  Traditionally Beltane was linked to the blooming of the Hawthorne in England, and Hawthorne branches were put up over the windows and doors to keep out evil spirits.  Hawthorne (along with Oak and Ash) was one of the sacred trees in Celtic lore.  And supposedly on Beltane Witches were able to turn themselves into Hawthorne trees...which is one reason it was unlucky to bring Hawthorne branches into a home.

Mine is still holding closed its blossoms, it has been blustery and cold here.  We are being rained upon, but nothing like poor Tennessee....what a horrific start to the summery season.

Watching the news fair withers the heart of late.  Cry
