We went to see the mother in law yesterday which in itself was quite a pleasant experience. 
However, my partners niece is getting married (again) and she proudly brought out the wedding gift she'd bought them to show us - a lovely pair of glasses with their names engraved on them - Nice huh!
When we got in the car, my partner says - "You know those glasses, the pure crystal ones with real gold embossing?" I made the appropriate mumbles of yes indeed, well, he says, those are the ones I bought her for her 50th birthday (30 years ago)!!!!  They cost him over $300 which was a big deal 30 years ago.  Ah well, she may as well give them to someone who's going to use them I guess.
