We've started waking up to crisp misty mornings with the scent of leaves on the air, dew highlighting spiderwebs in the trees in my garden and the birds are starting to gather every morning for breakfast at the feeding table again.

The cherry's are all picked and bottled in brandy, the last of the summer tomatoes are making an effort to turn red on the kitchen window cill, onions are waiting to be pickled into big jars and I'm planning hearty soups and casseroles for the family meals. Summer herbs have been cut and dried and a glut of apples will be made into apple sauce.

The pots of summer plants have been cleared to make way for winter cyclamen and bulbs that will wait for spring.
And I'm looking out for the first pumpkins to appear to make the lanterns for Samhain and of course some pumpkin soup.
....... I adore this time of year.
This is the season when I feel the definate change in the air and it comes as a relief after the sporadic summer heatwaves.

Enjoy the Autumn eveyone.

Blessings
Kate. xx

We're still a couple weeks away, but I'm really looking forward to the change of seasons.

Autumn blessings, all.

Having been away for three weeks I really notice the changes here now that I'm home.  I went for my usual walk this morning amid a shower of leaves.  The walnuts and sycamores are dropping their leaves everywhere.  The dogwoods are already turning red and some of the big maples up the road are beginning to display a hint of color.

The summer flowers are gone and the fields are yellow with daisies and Black-Eyed Susans, and purple with asters.

Many of the birds of summer have already left for the winter.  The robins are gone.  I'm still seeing the occasional bluebird, but they should be gone soon as well.  And the goldfinch are changing into their green feathers for the winter.

The tobacco harvest is in full swing and the air is redolant with woodsmoke from the barns where the tobacco has been hung to cure.

It's dark much later in the morning now, and even at 9 AM it's still cool enough to walk even though it gets up to 87 in the afternoon.

Yup, fall is here and the seasons are turning.

Yum, applesauce sounds so good right now. I wanna bake my own pumpkin seeds this fall, I love pumpkin seeds. I'm looking forward to fall being pretty interesting this year, especially now that I have work for most of my days and a good running car (though it could use a tune-up). I collected some leaves already from the last time I took a walk through a nearby park. I found a pretty red one that looked like it had a rune eaten through it. I thought it was interestin'. Smiley

Summer is lingering here, but some leaves are getting just a tinge of color.  Of course, many shrubs and trees died this summer in the terribly hot and dry time.  Today is a planned outdoor work day to start fall prep for winter.

Fall is  my favorite season.  And I am finished up my Earth element attunement phase...as we take final harvest from the garden.  And making absinthe with herbs from the garden, my wormwood did well this year!
