Last week Jon and I were invited to a party of a particular friend and for the two months before I got constant badgering from her and another friend about being there. To be honest, I didn't want to go. We've been to simmilar parties with her and I hate to say this but I'd prefer to stick needles in my eyelids and brand my skin with red hot pokers. Plus Jons been working hard and we don't get a lot of time to spend together with the kids. Anyway, I made an excuse that I didn't have a babysitter and then I got more hassle and it was suggested I leave the kids with Jon. This made me angry because, as I said, Jon works his butt off and eventhough he wouldn't mind looking after the kids, he'd be exhusted.   These two friends dont have children.
I also have the feeling that this girl had invited me for entertainment value of my tattoo's as she made a great thing about whether people would be able to see them properly.

I'd told  both friends several times we wouldn't be going but I brought a nice present and took it around to her that afternoon. Then I had a lovely evening with the children and Jon.

One girl has blamed me for a row with her boyfriend as he didn't want to go either and seeing as we had gotten out of it he decided he'd stay at home too. And the other girl hasn't called or spoken to me since.

This is the bit that makes me laugh though..... everyone's over 30 and acting like school kids. So to all the young people out there having problems with friends ..... It doesn't end as you get older it just seems more stupid!

It does sound kindergardenish, doesn't it?  I struggled with events like this for a few years with one friend; finally tossed in the towel.

Good for you doing the same!

Most people with out children rarely think of the responsibility involved with them especially the younger ones. I have had a similar issue with my older co workers at times when they want to all go out, the issue there is all of their children are grown and on thier own.

I'm glad you decided to stay home.  We shouldn't have to do things we really don't want to do unless they are truly necessary...and attending a party doesn't fall on my necessary list.

Sounds like your friends need to do a bit of growing up.

(By the way, one thing you'll find as a benefit as you grow older is that you pay less attention to what others want out of you and a lot more on tending to self.  It's really liberating!)
