Ryans just enlightened me of his "mock" exam results, they are the practice runs before the big thing in 2 months time.
He got a U which is unmarkable, and a G (which is bad), the rest of the results I'm waiting for, but those two were in geography and English!

I've asked him what will make it a bit easier for him, how can I help more..... he said, "Get me out of the exams". (HA, HA)

I don't know what to do, I've even offered to pay for private tutoring.... any ideas.... please!
Many thanks
Blessings

I don't have any advice (my son is only 1!), but I would think that you have a good idea with the tutoring. In the US, we have books published that you can study with for our big tests (like the SAT's, ACT's, MCAT's, LSAT's, etc). Are there any books like that in the UK? Getting one of those to study would probably help (as long as he worked with them!)

I also wonder why he scored so low...have his grades been poor up until now? It seems unusual that if he performs well in the classroom that he would do so poorly on an exam.

I don't know if these links would be of any help, but the BBC does have revision help here:

Thank you both, I will try the BBC website.

The thing is his work has been fine, maths is amazing as is science (I don't know the results for those yet) the only problem he's had in the last two weeks was us having the mother of all rows over a new pair of football boots that cost £130 and I said "No".

So I really don't know what the problem is.

It may be the structure of the test that's the problem.  Some kids who are very bright in school have difficulty with certain sorts of tests.  If that is the case then doing some practice work on similarly written tests might be helpful.

I had a meeting at the school last night and his main report, on the whole is good, and he is hitting A's in his sports. He wants to go onto sports management and so we have spoken to 2 colleges. He will need 5 C grades minimum. So the maths teacher is giving him extra tuition next year after school, his english teacher is keeping in touch with me by email so I know what he's meant to be doing, science isn't too bad, if only he'd stop chatting to his mates, Sports as I said, is great and already in the bag, and he even managed to pass Religious Education !!  Though I said "Did you want to become a priest then Ryan?" and his english teacher replied that if he ever became a priest she would start going to church!

So yes Lark, I think you're right, its the fact that someone says "Exam" and he goes into melt down.

I've booked him in for some reflexology treatment, just to nail some stress - we can see if it works then he can have it regularly, and I have a whole battalion of essential oils and Bach flower remedies to help him relax or concentrate.

Hopefully we will get there!
Thanks for all your help everyone.
