The original purpose of the taiko was to use the sound of the drum to carry man's prayers to heaven.

Kodo is by far one of the most phenominal performance groups in the world today. If you know me at all, you know that I would not give out praise like that lightly.

The attached clip is produce by Sony, the primary sponsor of their 2009 tour. It's a little over the top in terms of production, but still a very good example of Kodo's work.

I had the good fortune to be able to see Kodo live several years ago in St. Louis. Their artistry is beyond compare.

If you ever have a chance to see Kodo in person do it. They are phenomenal. Especially when they get on the really big drum. And the feel of the sound of the drums through your body makes it worth the price of the ticket.
