Hi All, Here in the UK, each County has a council who basically decide how the Governments allocation of cash is spent and also collect Council Tax both of which are used to improve the environment and pay for essential services like police, fire, etc.
Anyway, they also have a system of recycling. it works by each household dividing their waste into various bins and then it gets collected every two weeks. However, they don't collect cardboard and the bottles need to have their caps removed, our council will only take white paper which is not shredded, no plastic food trays or yoghurt pots etc. The list is endless. So half the time it doesn't get collected and when it does the big lorry that drives round the streets uses so much fuel and billows out black smoke that the impact on the environment by the collection off sets any saving of the environment by the recycling!
I don't know if its just me but the council idea is a pointless exercise.
So now, I have ordered 3 indoors recycling boxes for various items and we are going to take the waste down to the recycling plant ourselves each time we pass by. And I can reduce the volume of waste by crushing tin cans, cutting up the plastic bottles and shredding the paper no matter what colour it is.
If we are going to do something positive about recycling towards saving the planet then the councils need to re-think their system and make it eco-friendly and purposeful.
I'll get off me soap box now. Blessings Kate. xx
