My grandfather was diagnosed with the earliest stages of leukemia in the spring.  It hadn't quite developed into full leukemia yet so everyone was pretty optimistic.  Then about 2 months ago he got an infection and it's been downhill ever since.

My mom just called me tonight saying that he's developed pneumonia and the doctors can't get it to go away.  Everyone's saying it's not looking good, and the word "arrangements" keeps coming up.  Mom's flying out there to be with Grandma, who's a total wreck right now (understandably).

This is so unexpected.  Grandpa's 76 but he's always been healthy and active - when all this started, the only thing he was upset about was the fact that he wasn't going to be able to play softball!  His mother was a spunky woman who walked 3 miles every day until she was in her 90s and lived to be 103.  Grandpa takes care of Grandma - she's been having health issues for years.  I'm so worried about both of them.  If you have some extra healing energy, please send it his way.  And maybe some energy in general for the rest of us on edge...

I got the call yesterday - Grandpa passed away yesterday afternoon as my mom and Grandma were on their way to see him.  They've decided just to have a small service on Sunday and told the grandkids not to come out.  Grandma said she'd rather just have a big memorial for her and Grandpa in their hometown when she passes, so we're respecting that.  It's just so hard being 1000 miles away on Thanksgiving when my mom's family is grieving.

On top of this, I found out that my great-aunt (on my dad's side) passed away today.  That wasn't really unexpected - she'd been in very poor health for a long time, but it just seems like when it rains, it pours.  I'm going to the funeral on Saturday.  Hubby's going with me for moral support, even though he never got to meet her.

If you can spare some energy, it might help keep me sane through all this.

So very sorry about your double loss.  It is certainly a lot to carry at once.  I hope there is some sense of comfort in knowing that both of your dear ones are free of the illness and pain that marked the last days of their lives.

I am so sorry to hear of your losses.  It always seems harder to lose loved ones in the middle of the holidays when everyone is expecting to be happily together.  Prayers and energy are on the way for you and your family.
