If anyone can spare some energy my family and I could really use some help. My husband came home from work on Wednesday and informed me he had just been laid off. We have five kids and were counting on his pay to buy Christmas gifts for them. Now I just hoping to make December's rent.  I got a notice in the mail today letting me know that my wages will be garnished for a debt from 1996 that I didnt' know I owed. SO our holiday season is off to a pretty crappy start, and I am feeling pretty depressed right now, so if anyone here could spare some positive energy to send our way we'd really appreciate it.

Seems to be a lot of this going around.
I feel bad that you are having to try and cope with all of this.

I will certainly add you to the list of those I'm sending positive energy to!
Hang in there.

Ouch, that hurts!  So many people are in the same boat with you this Christmas what with the current economy.

Try negotiating with the people who garnished your wages to see if they could take out a smaller amount over a longer period so you have a bit of extra cash.  And your husband should also be eligible to file for unemployment which will help a little bit.

As for the kids, check out Toys for Tots in your area for toys that are provided free to children in need.  And also see whether they could get their names put on an Angel Tree is there is one being sponsored in your area.  That way you can still give them the Christmas they are used to while still saving you money to put towards things like rent.  And don't feel bad about asking for this help.  Kids need to feel safe and secure and having the same routine will take some of the stress off of them.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  Here's to a much better new year.

I feel for you - I lost my job in Oct of '06 just as we were making headway with some of the creditors that kept calling (we were stupid with the credit cards before we got married).  Just remember, the roof over your head and the food in your pantry come first, and it will get better.  Who knows, maybe this lay-off will lead to a better opportunity for him; that's what happened for me.  In the meantime, I'll spare what energy I can for you!

Hi,I'm back again - I was around a few years ago and a few years before that.....I always read, but rarely post.

I wanted to answer you because I really feel for you. Several years ago my friend committed suicide, my mother passed away, and I lost my job all in the same week. It was a terrible time and then my partner had his 1st of 4 heart attacks - boom - 2 wages to none!!!!  My partner was lucky, they held his job for him.  I had to take care of him, coping with the losses and his illness over time took it's toll.  I got really depressed and therefore lost my confidence and also desire to get a job - I became so apathetic it wasn't funny.

The good news is all is fine now - 5 years later (we almost lost our house and I had bankruptcy proceedings started against me) - that jolted me out of it I can tell you.  I have a fantastic job now and he is healthier than he's been for awhile.

SO, one great thing that came out of all this was that I discovered free cycling - I'm sure you'll have one in your area - people list things they no longer need or want - lots of it new, and you can do the same.  We got things that we never would have been able to get otherwise - like a mower (new), dining suite (1 month old, her boyfriend hated it), exercises equipment for his road to recovery and heaps of other stuff - now I list heaps of stuff to help other people.  They are good people, you can put a wanted post up, tell them the story, and you'll have offers of Chrissie gifts I'm sure - the good thing is you can give back later when you're on your feet again.  Since I've discovered it, I haven't dumped one thing, haven't contributed to land fill at all - someone always wants it old or new, for their pet or art or whatever.

I wish you luck and send you all the good energy possible - keep us posted, I hope he finds a great new job very soon.

Oh Rowan, sending you any spare positive energies I can.

It has been a very tough 2nd half of 2008 for my husband and I also so I feel for you.

We were infromed in August that we had back taxes that were owed that we really believed we had paid.  We're currently forking out about $ 700 extra a month to pay them off.  In turn we're running a month behind on everything.  Cable, electric, water, car payment is running about 2 weeks late.  And we don't have any presents done yet for our daughter either.  **HUGE HUGS**  Everyone is feeling the economic stress right now and the unfortunate thing here in the USA is that they are predicting it's going to get worse before it gets better.  Not what we all want to hear either. Sad

And Mermdotcom is absolutely right, as long as you have a roof over your head and food on the table that's the number one priorties right now.  Food & shelter.  Everything will work out for the better.  And believe me I know how you feel....it always does seem to rain when it pours.

The good news on the gallbladder is that they should be able to do that with a minimal cut and do it laproscopically.  I pray they can do it that way for you.  The recovery time is so much faster and the hospital stay is minimal.  I had mine out 9 years ago.  They did it laproscopically and I stayed in the hospital one night. Best wishes there.  Until you get your gallbladder removed, if I may make a suggestion to you.  CUT OUT FAT from your diet!  Eat non fat or as little fat as possible.  It will greatly help with the pain.

Thinking of you and wishing you brighter & better days to come very soon hon.  *HUGS**

Everything happens for a reason. My hubby is still laid off, but his mother is now in the hospital she had to have two of her toes amputated, my surgery was yesterday and I am now home. If hubby was working I would be so overwhelemed with the kids by myself and the post op care of his mother when she gets released. I will have to do the dressing changes for her on the days the visiting nurses dont' come. So at least I can see where this does have a reason and in the end although money is tight, it is better than the risk of him losing a job due to missed time he would have taken to care for me and his mom.

Yep, sometimes those clouds do have silver linings even if it's hard to see them at the time.

I wish I could fix things for all of you, but I know I can't save the world.  Just know that I am keeping each and every one of you in my thoughts and prayers and hoping things are better soon.
