I am posting this to try and get some opinions and/or feedback on a subject that has puzzled me for many, many years.
My mother left my father due to abuse and tried to take me with her. I was 4. He threatened and indeed tried to kill her for trying to take me with her. He remarried a few years later and tried to force a hateful stepmother on me, who I refused to accept. I would not call her "mother" and hence, I suffered much abuse for this. However, I remained determined and never gave in.
I never got to see my mother again. Years after the fact, I was told that she had sucummed to Breast Cancer, and later died.
When I finally left home as a very young teenager, I went to stay with my older sister. A tiny, six week old, solid black kitten showed up on her doorstep one day. She named her, but couldn't help but notice the instant bond between this kitten and I. When I moved out and got my own place, the cat went with me. She was with me untill her death at a very old age.
So....here's where things get weird. Not too long after the death of my first, another female black cat turned up out of nowhere. She was about 2 yrs. old and was a constant companion till she died. A few months later....wanna guess?
Yet another, young female black cat found her way to me....this time, by way of an animal rescue group I was fostering for. They sent this cat to me because she was being treated for a cyst...which I had only days earlier been diagnosed with!
Anyone notice a pattern here?
When I moved to Nebraska 2 years ago, I had no cats to bring, just dogs and a horse. I was unloading groceries from my car on a cold winter's night when I felt something press against my leg. Thinking it was one of my corgi's, imagine my surprise when I looked down and, behold, a young black female cat.
We took her in as I couldn't bear to leave her to brave the elements they were calling for over the next few days. She was obviously a house cat, due to the condition of her haircoat, (or lack thereof!)
As with all the others before her, I searched extensively for an owner, someone to come forward and claim her. An ad posted for a missing cat. Reports of one lost to local shelters and the like. Even local vets! Nothing!
She is here with us now, a part of our family. A very familiar member, as were they all. Each one to the next of these gifts, seemed to all have the same personality, quirks, likes, dislikes, and habits! Though each one has left undeniable paw-prints on my heart,it's almost been as though I never lost my first one at all, but for the brief time in between each ones arrival!
Does anyone think this is odd? Anyone wanta bounce around some theories as to how and why this "trend" seems to have really caught on with me? Everybody really think about this a bit, and post some thoughts!
Thanks and Brightest Blessings!
