I've been trying to help my sister to learn to meditate, but the techniques that work for me, don't work for her. Does anyone know of any good sites or books I could point her to?

Just to elaborate on the problem a bit more, my sister seems to have an exceptionally busy mind. She always seems to have three or four thought processes going on at once and her mind races. She has always found it hard to concentrate, and gets distracted easily.

It's something she hadn't mentioned until she talked to me about meditation. I had mentioned that I meditated, and what it involved, and one day she came to me and asked about it. I gave her some advice and she tried it, and explained the problems she was having. I decided that she would probably require different techniques to me, and that she probably needs to learn to meditate.

Anyway, thanks for any help anyone can offer.

The only advice I can give is to practice.  I have a problem with a million thoughts running through my mind, too; with practice, I've learned to quiet my mind.

Just tell her to sit or lie quietly in a comfortable position, close her eyes, and breathe.  The thoughts will still be there, but with practice (and not just a week, either) they will gradually slip away.

That's basically what I've told her. It's hard to know how someone else thinks so I thought it might have been that I was telling her the wrong thing.

I suppose if it weren't hard it wouldn't be a mental exercise.

In times of difficulty, look in the mirror.

It is likely you will see the cause as well as the solution.

Thanks Red. I'll send her the link, and take a look at it myself and see what tips I can pick up too.

the key to meditation is practice.  I stopped practicing and I never got to the level I was in before.  I need to start all over again.
