As some of you may know, I've been in a bit of a rut. Part of what I've been doing to get myself back on my feet is to sort out the back garden.

I've levelled it off, laid turf and got it looking the way my mam wants it, but I've also made a raised vegetable patch where I will grow different vegetables and herbs. To me, growing my own vegetables makes me feel connected with the earth again, and I will not only be able to eat my own veg, but I'll be able to do spellwork with my own herbs.

I've also been able to buy a firepit which I'll be using at Yule so that I can sit outside and make broth or soup in a large pot or cauldron. Not having a fireplace has meant that I've been restricted to candles for Yule, but now I'll be able to have actual fire.

It's all small stuff, but having my family onboard with me observing festivals, and being able to do something creative and natural is helping me to combat my depression.

Sounds like you're having a great time.  Depending on your practices, that firepit might be useful on Beltane ane Litha as well.  Cool

You know, I suffered from depression a number of years ago and I found that carrying thyme in a blue cloth helped.  Would you happen to be growing thyme in your garden?

Well, for those times I was planning on doing a barbecue as the weather will be warmer. It's amazing how you can incorporate Pagan traditions into things that people would consider to be normal everyday things. I wanted to do a fertility ritual for my vegetables and I basically did the blessing on the watering can, sitting on the patio (where it's private), then watered the plants saying a few words. To any outside observer, I was just watering plants.

I've yet to receive the herbs. Fillionous has promised me some cuttings when they're ready. She did mention that thyme was one of the herbs she did.

One thing I'd quite like to grow is lavender for its relaxing properties. I'm hoping that the lawn will turn out to be a good place to meditate and the breeze will blow the smell in my direction.

Yeah, your herbs and plants are growing nicely... the first batch are ready for the post... Sent you a PM about them so you cna pick what you want...

Yes, there is green thyme and Golden thyme...
The lavenders need a bit longer to establish before they are big/strong enough to cope with being posted.

Sounds like your garden patch is going to be beautiful and productive.

Given that we are both in the UK this is easy... (no problems with importing or exporting!) I cannot send further afield, but have no problem sharing my spares... or doing a few extra cuttings... locally.

Be bright, be bold
