Did you know that, if you do anything with complete focus, it becomes engaging to an audience - that is - a performance?

To test this thoery I went to covent garden and moved a glass about... 3 or 4 meters over the course of 30 minutes.

I had an audience of about 60-80 when I finished and there was a juggler just down the road.

Its a good feeling.

But then you finish and go "Ok, I have an audience rapped with anticipation - what the hell do I do now?"

Today was a good day.

It still sounds more interesting than mime.  :-)

Passing the hat may have not been the best plan. I had the feeling that some people were angry in a wierd way.

I heard someone say "He's taking the piss" and I thought "Yeah - not completely, but I kind of am!"

Could you translate "taking the piss" for us Yanks?  I'm guessing it means something like "pulling our leg," but I'm not sure. I take it that it's not the same thing as "taking a piss," which would be rather obvious to any viewers....

Shocked You're such a dork.  I love street performing, though.   when we did Beauty and the Beast, we went out in front of bookstores and in coffee shops in full costume and talked to people.  Twas a blast.

I got that once, from reading while riding the bus.  My audience was like 3 or 4 strangers, who thought whippng out a book and reading it on the bus was really weird.  And I was really focused.

Once my theatre group have finished Macbeth I'm going to borrow 2 wooden swords, go to town with another actor and have an imaginary game of golf.

THIS will be fun.

This will be funny but it's actually pretty difficult. There is a fine line between mucking around and actually getting to a point where you believe totally that the sword is a golf club, there is a golf ball, the town square is a golf course.

If we cross the line into mucking about then we've ruined it.

that sounds like something I'd like to see.  do you plan to rehearse it or will you improvise?
