I was talking to my dad via IM today, and we were discussing my social life, or lack thereof. I said that I'd considered looking for a local coven to join. Well, my dad is a Christian (or so he says) and though he knows I'm a Pagan the idea of me joining a coven worried him.

He said 'Just make sure that the people there are JUST Pagan'. I'm not sure what he meant, but I ended up explaining to him that a coven is essentially a Pagan version of a church. This is a new experience for me, having a parent worried about me being Pagan.

I thinks it's good that your father worries about that.  In the end, "pagans" are people too and there are all kinds those in the world.  Just be cautions of who you are dealing with, them being pagan or otherwise!

I suppose it is a good thing. I just didn't like the idea of him worrying because of the people being Pagan, rather than because of them being people.

Another thought: one function of magical ritual is to put an imprint into your psyche and to change your self.  That's why covens and groups are so picky when it comes to recruiting members.  If my son were to join a magical group, I would worry too, if I didn't know what kind of people he would be sharing a circle with.
