"I don't know what they have to say,
it makes no difference anyway -
whatever it is, I'm against it!
No matter what it is or who commenced it,
I'm against it!

Your proposition may be good,
but let's have one thing understood -
whatever it is, I'm against it!
And even when you've changed it or condensed it,
I'm against it!"

Happy Corperate Money Making Day!

I love the season and the traditions we have, but It makes me so mad that this day that has a;ways been about family to me is more about who got the most presents for christmas.

This year, Santa brought my brother an MP3 player, a nintendo Wii, and a crap load of games.  And he was still cryingbecasuse he didn't get a pack of pokemon whatever cards.  It made me so mad I was about to hurt the darn kid!

I only got three presents, which I don't mind because some people get none. The bit I enjoy is giving other people presents, and seeing them opening them. It's the only part of the commercialism that is Christmas that I like. I didn't get that pleasure this year, because my family opened their presents before I got up. I also couldn't taste Christmas dinner because I have a cold.

This year was a humbug.

To be honest, though deep down I am a Marxist and therefore despite the "CAPATALIST-SCUM!!!" side of Christmas that's not the worst bit about it for me.

I find the less festive things feel, the better I feel. The traditions just remind me of a happier time really, and they help mark the fact that Christmas is the anniversy of something I don't like remembering.

But still - for a couple of years I was verging in the scrooge direction, working in a bookshop pushed me over the edge!

Anyways!

BAH HUMBUG!

(damn that feels good! BAH HUMBUG... mmmm... humbugs...)

This was a bad financial year for my family.  So the adults in our family came to a mutual agreement to forget the gift thing this year.  Of course, we made an exception with the children.  But the adults decided to gather and to eat, drink and be merry.

Not only did we not have to put up with the store crowds and stressing over what to get each other, but we had a joyous time on Christmas day.

I can honestly say that after this experience, that the gift giving thing, (while OK if it's your thing and you enjoy it), does not make the holiday.  It's the pleasure of celebrating family and being in each other's company that is the real gift.

And no one complained at all about not receiving any gifts!

Don't worry, you'll likely eventually get over it.  It's a bit like a childhood disease that a lot of young people get, but it doesn't seem to do a lot of lasting harm.
