I initially picked up the book "Not in Kansas Anymore" by Christine Wicker because of the title.  I'm a Kansas girl who's been transplanted several times.  The name spoke to me.

Then I read the cover.  "A curious tale of how magic is transforming America."  Before buying it, I thought it was a fiction book and gave the first chapter a read, where the author talked about going to a vampire party.  It still didn't seem like a real story.

The more and more I've gotten into it--I'm a good two-thirds of the way through--I've realized something.  Yes, it is a real story.  The author, who is a reporter, is investigating into 'Magical people", as she refers to them.  Mostly she's hit on Hoodoo and Wicca, but also talked about 'vampires' who feed on energy and alot of history.

It seems like she's on a 'quest' to find a magical culture that is one hundred percent pure, good magic, no exceptions whatsoever.

She still hasn't realized that she's never going to find it.  Humans abuse power.  I think most people have realized that.

So I'm wondering now if anyone else has happened to pick this book up and what thir take on it is.  I'm not sure if I'm just reading so fast that I'm not absorbing any of it, but this is what I've found so far.

Always~

I have not read the book, so I am not in a position to comment.  However, if you trot on over to Amazon, there are a number of reviews there.

Hopefully, the address below will take you directly there.  If not, just run a search for books under it's title over at amazon.com.

Sounds interesting enough that I ordered a copy.  Heck if you buy it new/used off Amazon you can get it for a penny plus shipping.

I'll let you know what I think.

I also found it at my local library (which is where I get almost all my reading material these days).  I was actually surprised to find it, since most of the books recommended on this forum - with the exception of "Drawing Down the Moon" - are nowhere to be found in this library system.
