I've been having a series of unrelated, but apparently symbollic dreams in the last months.

I had this one a couple days ago, it finished abuptly and I woke up in the middle of the night.

Just posting to see what some of the people here get out of it.

I was walking on a dark street and I come across something that is like an old house or shed.  On the sidewalk I see two chickens, one black and one white, and both have their legs tied with a red string.  I keep walking, and somehow the black chicken follows me.  I grab the chicken and take it into the house, where I find a woman with her face painted, sitting on a table with magial instruments, and candles and such.  I tell her "Um, this is yours I think.  It followed me so I'm bringing it back to ou."  The woman said "Leave it there, I'll use it later".  Then I left.  And... woke up.

Hmm, that's a strange one.  Here's my take on it:

Walking along a dark street could mean that you're feeling lost.  If the street was forked or branched, it could mean that you're unsure of which way you should go; if the street had no forks or branches and there is only one way to go, then the choice is obvious, but you are still unsure if it is the right one.

Buildings are usually symbolic of one's subconscious.  You described the house or shed as "old."  If it was unkempt and dirty-looking, perhaps you are feeling stressed.  Maybe you deserve a break.

What do we know about chickens?  They're smelly, they're not very intelligent, but they're gentle and they make good food.  One white and one black probably signifies an balance between light and darkness, as does the number two (the number of chickens).  White on it's own represents enlightenment while black alone could either represent mysteries or confusion.  Red represents the life-force and Mother Goddesses, as it is the color of blood.

Perhaps the woman inside the house was a goddess?  A mask or painted face would represent a mystery, and a table full of magical tools may signify that she is a prophet.  I think that the black chicken started to follow you because it wanted to help you uncover some secret.  The string around it's legs signified who it belonged to.  If you visit this woman again in your dreams, maybe she will have something very important to tell you.  It's worth a try!

EDIT: I looked up chickens on dreammoods.com and it says: "To see chickens in your dream, symbolizes cowardliness and a lack of willpower. Chickens also represents excessive chatter and gossip. Listen closely to what people may be saying about you or what you are saying about others."  Once again, the chicken may have been trying to lead you to this woman, who may have something to say about you.

I don't know about chickens meaning cowardice or such but the impression I got is that one of the Goddesses is trying to communicate with you and you have something of Hers that you want to return to her that unexpainedly showed up recently in your life.

Try meditating on the dream images and message while in a wakeful state and see where that takes you.

Have you been exploring in Santeria or Voodon recently?

I had a very similar thougoht Gryphon. My first thought was of santeria and vodoun. And the woman inside the house with the red robe and magickal tools I was thinking of, oh I can't think of the correct word, but the "High Priestess"  for vodoun.

Hey guys, thank you so much.

No, I have not been studying santeria, or voudoun.  The priestess didn't have a robe.  What was new for me is that it was the face of a person I never met before, and I could see her in complete detail.  Like a sort of apparition.

A lot of what you guys said makes a lot of sense.

A witch-friend told me the black-white chickens, and the act of taking it and returning it to the priestess was a compensation of opposite forces. About the gossip part, in my group we have been having some problems because of structural changes and of course I heard some gossip going on.  I also have become confused and a bit unsure about the people in the group.  But I don't know if this is related to gossip.

Maybe I did take something that was not mine, but I don't really know what it might be.  Knowledge, maybe, that was not fit for me to know. And yeah, there's a lot of stress going on, but also related to work.

I thought for a while that maybe I am not paying much attention to my "magical life" and the situation symbolized something deep inside trying to bring my attention to that.   Maybe the priestess was calling me back, to get my attention.  Maybe she's trying to get me into santeria or voudoun?!  Oh Lords!

Yet another detail... On October 31 we performed a ritual that was a symbollic opening of a portal into the underworld, in order to find things out, see the past or where things are going, or to resolve issues.  The teacher who lead the ritual told us later that things would reveal themselves afterwards, either in dreams or in symbollic events.

Who knows? It all remains a mystery to me.

Is there any magical technique I could use to go back there and find things out?
