Just wondering what everyone's opinion on telekinesis, telepathy, levetation?  Do you believe there is a scientific explanation, or is it magick, or is it both?  I am just wondering if it is possible.  I honestly believe that it is possible, it just takes a LOT of meditation, and training to be able to do it. (that is if you are not a natural)

I reckon it probably just takes a knack

I think you are right.  It is so hard for me to concentrate/meditate... basically anything that involves not getting destracted for long periods of time.  I dont know what it is but everytime I try to meditate during a bath, in my room, or anywhere alone.  I get scared to shut my eyes, I feel as if someone is watching me, and that if I allow myself to be deep in thought or meditation, that would leave me vulnerable.  I can sense presences sometimes.  I "feel" someone is there.  I dont know if that is paranoia or fact, but I that is the reason I never get too deep into meditation, or thought.

I have great difficulties believing in things that are violations of natural laws.

I'm rooted to the ground through gravity.  Based on gravity and the laws of inertia, I'm going to stay where I'm at unless effected by some outside influence.  I can't flap my arms and go zooming through the skies because the laws of physics deal with things like lift, thrust, drag, etc.

As much and as hard as anyone wants to sit around in lotus position trying to get themself to somehow violate those natural laws, I'm inclined to think all they're going to get for the effort is some stiff legs and hemmorhoids.

that's a good point redronin.

but what are nature's "laws", anyway?

Let's just say for starters that noone has been able to demonstrate successfully any of these actions.  In the cases where it appeared to happen it has always been proved to have been illusion and trickery.

I suppose that theoretically it is possible to violate the laws of physics and achieve this through spending years and years trying to figure out how to do it.  But in the meantime, just think of how much of life you have missed out on.  Frankly it seems like it would be a waste of time to me.  I have so many other things I want to do.

My answer before was a bit of a silly one. I'll answer more seriously.

I think the laws of physics are a bit more... bendy, than science accepts. I believe if you achieve a sort of consciousness that, for example, truely doesn't see that wall to be particuarly solid then you can walk through it.

However, if you do achieve such a consciousness you also see how you may as well just use the door.

There is a (rather academic) book on Buddhist meditation called "Walking Through Walls", since this is one of the "skills" that advanced meditators are reputed to have, once they see that the wall is illusory. It is worth reading if such things interest you.

lol, thank you guys, I guess I did let my imagination get the best of me, there are so many books out there on defying gravity, and what not, i get caught up in it, because it does sound pretty good...sometimes, unless i was able to be telekinetic and I break something I wanted. Anyways, thank you guys.

Whoa now...........

You asked for our opinions.

That's what you got.

My thoughts on the matter hardly classify as a final answer.  I take a very Missourian view of things.  "Show me" is the answer I have for most things people bring up along these lines.

At this board, we've had characters show up here that must believe the entire membership just fell off the turnip truck.  We've had people that can control the weather, could summon winds that snap trees when they were angered, fart lollipops and all kinds of other really impressive stuff..................... until they were challenged to back it up, anyway.

Things such as you have brought up may very well exist.  I've not come across it, so while I don't call them impossible, there is an overwhelming degree of improbability that ends up pretty close to the same thing.

And....... the miniscule number of people that have developed themselves to such a degree aren't going around making public spectacles out of themselves.

I think telekinesis, telepathy and levitation are possibilities that have an extremely low probability of actually happening.

But I won't say that they will not happen.

Simple............

Anything in nature that the ignoring of will result in severe adverse involuntary bodily modification classifies.

You can generally find a brief summary of these on the flyleaf of a good university-level physics text.
