All at the same time

Today we had a theatre workshop come to college and a whole load of the performing arts and drama students came along to it.

We did some excercises warming up our vocal collomns and then we were told to release the breath on a "mmmm" sound. After that we were told to release our breath on an "ahhhh" sound.

Now this bit was incredible.

We were told, don't try and make the ahhhh sound that the person next to you is doing; make one that sits most comfortably for you and is individual. Some people sustain longer than others so the whole thing becomes staggered.

Everyone was doing differents "ahhs" but they were forming the most incredible harmony.

The harmony was just...

I actually have no words to describe how beautiful it was.

We ran into that last spring when the music frat had their initiation at my son's college.  Since I am a past president of the chapter, I got to participate.

The ritual (story of Orpheus) was held in a wine cellar converted from a limestone cave.  For whatever reason, the acoustics were amazing.  30 male voices warming up in there had me in goosebumps for a while.
