I was in Camden. I was with a group of people: my producer and the guitar section of his band (they had played earlier) as well as one other person tagging along. We needed to go to a cashpoint and we ended up walking from the bit near the Barfly (Chalk Farm really) all the way the way to Camden Station. Whilst we were getting cash we saw one of the most interesting, engaging things ever.

There was a very large group of people and a big hole in the middle. This was filled with 3 people.

1 Black Muslim
1 Gay Muslim
1 Christian Neo-Nazi

The Black and the Gay were holding a megaphone, taking turns to speak. They were saying things like "Christianity, Islam they're both concepts; at the end of the day, it's the same god"

The neo-Nazi was raving round slagging off Islam. The crowd just got bigger and bigger, the Neo-Nazi more and more irrate.

We filmed a Nazi salute at one point.
The crowd was chipping in, agreeing and disagreeing and the Muslims refused to let the Neo-Nazi have his say on the megaphone. The crowd was saying things like "Let him have his say" or "This man should be shot" (refering to the Nazi) and we were just thinking - how ignorant can you get. The answer to hatred being "this man should be shot"?

It was truely fancinating. No-one was listening to eachother.

One thing you don't see these days is people who are empassioned. I felt a great deal of admiration for the Neo-Nazi for not just absorbing the standard viewpoint of society and going along with it - he may be a facist but at least he obviously came to that viewpoint himself. At one point he said "Does anyone agree with me?" and someone said "Yeah!" and we were impressed that they felt so empowered to say "Yes - I believe what this guy says, despite that no-one else does!"

We were almost waiting for him to hit someone.

It's really hard to describe but it really was an amazing thing to watch.

Much Love

It is interesting.  If you really think about it, if we really did give the "power to the people," the world would explode.  No one would agree on anything, hatred and prejudice would creep up, and a big war would start.  Logic, consistency, courage, and thinking are qualities that are missing far too much today.

We may not agree with another wo/man's views...but we must defend, wholeheartedly, his or her right to hold and express them!

(Ok I've just typed this, quite enthusiastically I might add.  But now I'm thinking of loopholes and I'm not so sure...I'll come back to this when I've had sleep, or caffeine.)

No, I guess that is not something one sees every day.  In fact it sounds like the set up for some terrible joke.  You know, like 'an English man an Irish man and a Scot walk into a bar... a misunderstaning occurs, the outcome is hilarious.
