Bandwise - things are going well!
We have found a new drummer in the form of the new guy at work who turns out to be the drummer of the (since departed) Epsom and Ewell legends Old Toyko (renouned for their punk cover of Barbi Girl by Aqua) and now the drummer of Jazz 3-piece
Kitty and The Drowning Bag. It's still to be seen how well it's work out practically and how well we'll click as musicians but my gut feeling is VERY good on this.
We have also got a manager now, in the form of a girl at college who wants to go into band management as a career and needs to build her CV. We are going to have a band meeting this week that'll include her and we'll discuss what her assuming the title "manager" will actually mean. We will discuss what managerial duties I will keep, what she will get, how much she will pester-manage me and how much she will do herself, how costs will work etc.
As for how well the album's doing - we've broken even on manufacturing costs, which is immensely cool because from now on we make money! I've spent a lot of today making CDs and putting them in various envelopes (to the Americas, to Artists and Designers etc). We ran out of sleeves today which in itself isn't good but in a way it is because it means we've now
sold out!
As more of a footnote, I've redone almost the entire Impressionables webspace - we now have a forum, have a brand new mainsite - the myspace was always incredibly well maintained so that's not really changed.
So bandy stuff this week will consist of a) restocking CDs b) management meeting c) FIRST REHERSAL WITH NEW DRUMMER!!!!
College:
Is awesome!
The first week was very "AHHHHHH!!! PEOPLE!!! THIS PLACE IS... BIG! SCARY! AHHHHHHHH!" and was generally a bit unpleasant, after that it was "AHHHHHH!!! PEOPLE!!! THIS PLACE IS... BIG! SCARY! AHHHHHHHH!" and generally very fun!
Drama is absolutely amazing (though our first deadline is in a week)! We started mostly doing lots of complisite excercises (basically fun getting to know eachother excercises but taken VERY seriously!) and then did some workshops on theatre practioners including my beloved Artaud.
We're now studying Das Gute Mensch aus Szechwan by Bertolt Brecht.
All my lessons are a lot of fun. I'm really enjoying college.
We had the freshers ball on thursday (my bed for the night was arranged like this:
"I don't think I can come unless someone puts me up but I don't think I'll find anyone to do that"
"Rich, can you put Seb up?"
"Huh? Oh! Yeah, ok"
"There you go you now have a bed on thursday!"
"Cheers") and it was incredible. Me and Rich both, once at the ball were dancing and starting to get sweaty and said "I will if you will" and we both spent the rest of the night with no shirts on!
It was a lot of fun, I danced very furiously and was very come-on-to by the opposite gender, which was a bit of a culture shock seeing as my contact with girls has been a bit... limited for a very long time and getting such obvious interest was a little out of place with the rest of my life for the last... ages!
Anyways - I think I've had more fun since starting college than I have had since the whole of the previous two years put together - I've even been to an Anne Summers party - a dream of many-a-boy!
Much Love
Sebbi
