The bad news is that he's still in Tikrit. The good news is that we are over the hump and he will be coming home in another month or so.
Right now he's mostly just tired. Now that the equipment is ready to go and air-flow has stated his days can become very long indeed. And because of the heat and for the safety of the aircraft, a lot of the air movement takes place at night. So they work most of the day getting ready to load aircraft, then most of the night trying to get it loaded.
At least the heat is abating a bit. For awhile he says it would be in the 90's when he got up at 4AM, and one day it was 135 degrees in the afternoon. It made just going outside exhausting, and sleeping at night was uncomfortable. Air conditioners don't work that well in a tent! It must be doubly difficult for the soldiers when they are wearing all their protective gear and combat load.
We were originally told that he would be coming home by the 10th of October. Then it looked like he'd be down in Kuwait by September 20th and coming home by the 28th of September. But that didn't last very long. He was asked if he could stay on in Kuwait if it turned out that there was additional work that had to be done..and given the job situation of course he said he would. So now it is unclear. He may be home by the 28th of September...or it may well be mid-October-ish. At least once he gets to Kuwait I can breathe again!
