......   Me mother-in-law is still buying loads of lacy, frilly stuff in various shaded of putrid pink for baby, despite being told I will never dress her in it, so if any of you are expecting, or have friends or relatives expecting now or in the future please let me know. I will gladly send you a variety of fluffy items.    They will give you hours of pleasure picking bits of baby sick out of the collar and ruffles.

Her reason given for this inane shopping spree ...... apparently I will dress baby like a 'dyke'.    (my appologies to anyones sexual orientation here, but those were her words.)     I even bought a little white long sleave top with embroidery around the cuffs which I gave to her as a guide - no more 'frills' than this !    So I've given up and if her nose is put out of joint its tough.

let me know.

I wouldn't worry about it over much. You will be dressing your baby and can pick what you want to put her in. My daughter's first years she spent in onesies and jammies unless we went to a fancy event (maybe once a year). Half of the clothes I gave away when she outgrew them still had labels on them.

You might look into your local charities like Catholic Social Services as well as Child and Family Services.  Usually, they are looking for donations of baby clothes for those who cannot afford them.

I would suggest you at least put the baby in a few of the outfits long enough to snap a picture or three, then give the pictures to mom and get rid of the outfits.  Then, everyone is happy.

Good luck with it.

Ooh, she's lucky she's not my mother-in-law, otherwise my mom would be kicking the crap out of her.

I agree that you should at least take some pics in the froo-froo crap (if I ever have a girl, she'll be ruffle-less, too!), that way your MIL will be appeased and won't bug you as much.  You might want to hang onto 2 or 3 outfits as well, just in case she gets too hard to handle.

As far as what to do with the other 900 outfits she'll likely buy for your baby girl, you could look into consignment shops and second-hand stores.  They'll buy the outfits from you, so you can make some extra cash, get rid of the frills and ruffles, and probably find some great bargains on other kiddie clothes while your there!

What can I say?  I'm thrifty!
