Okay, so there's this thing I've had ever since I was a kid, I can always tell when something is wrong with another person. Its odd, I just know by the way they look, or the way they are, its weird its like I'm super-sensitive to it. Usually its with people I already know, I've never had it happen with strangers. But anyways, I've never really thought about it that much, I just thought I was really intuitive and thought it was just cool.

But now, I've learned a bit about empathy just recently and I was wondering if maybe this was a sign of empathy... I really don't know much.

I may be totally wrong, but I want to know if maybe there is more to it than just being intuitive. And if it is more, I would really want to be able to know how to make it grow and controle it.

Thanks

Much love

I think empathy is nothing more than a combination of intuition and sympathy/compassion. If your intuition is strong, and you have a kind heart, you are naturally empathetic.

Intuition can be developed and strengthened, and of course, so can compassion. So one can grow in empathy over time.

The only danger here is in taking on someone else's burdens as one's own to the extent that they weigh you down. It's the great peril of healers, and one of the most important lessons they have to learn: how to feel (or heal) someone's pain without making it your own.

A good book on the subject is Developing Intuition: Practical Guidance for Daily Life by Shakti Gawain.

And here are some links you might find helpful:

Meditation is always good too. The way I see it, psychic phenomena are a function of the subconscious mind. Meditation is a good way to focus and centre the mind, but, another thing it does is to help the person meditating to control their state of consciousness.

This technique is used in practices such as lucid dreaming, astral travel, and also applies to tuning in to psychic messages in the brain. I also think meditation is important for anyone who does magical work.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.
