I've come across many, many threads that I would like to comment on, but they're locked.  None of them have had fights break out in them or anything like that, so I'm just curious as to why they've been locked.  Is there a certain amount of time that a thread can be on the forum before it is locked?  Thank you.

Usually, the mods will give a reason as to why a thread is locked.

Most of the time, though, it's because a thread has run it's course, someone can't abide by the board rules and go off topic or into areas outside the acceptable realm.  Still others just degenerate into pissing contests that serve no useful purpose.

Check out the board rules section.  If you wish to start a topic that stays within the parameters, life's cool.

Hi there,

Are you talking about the topics in the "Boneyard" Forum??

If so, those are threads that ran their course, but were worth saving.  I clean them up, put them in that Forum and them lock them because they aren't expected to be discussed further.

If you see something in there that you'd like to discuss, just go ahead and start a new thread in the Cauldron and reference the thread that you wanted to respond to.

Other locked threads that are closed because of the topic or because of arguments will generally have a note at the end of them from one of the Mods saying why the thread is being locked.  Those should not be restarted.

If you have any questions about re-opening a thread, drop me a PM and ask me about it.

Thanks, that explains it.

Oh, and yes, the Boneyard was where I was browsing when I noticed the abundance of locked threads.
