I've been recently researching to see if veterinary medicine is right for me. Of course this is a scientific career so math is involved and I'm not outstanding in math. Are there any other career options that involves animals? I have thought about the zoo, doggie or pet day cares, not too much for pet stores. And I'm also around the time for college planning so what majors or minors will be suitable to take.

Check out the Zoo Animal Tech program at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville Florida.  It's a very good program and you will be right next door to the University of Florida if you should decide to go on to vet school.

The thing to remember about programs, such as Zoo Animal Tech, is they get you prepared to work in a zoo.  Basically you spend two years to get an AS degree so that you can go get a minimum wage job.  That's not necessarily a bad thing.  People like Jim Fowler and Joan Embry started off that way and they are quite successfull and highly respected in the field now.  Everybody has to start somewhere.

Please do not let your math skills stop you from a scientific or medical career.  Some of us develop our math skills much later in life, and we really have to work at it.  That does not mean one is not capable!  I was very interested in sciences but gave it up without really trying because of a fear of the math involved.  Now I work with numbers every day in financial services!  Who would have thought!

Shadow has given great advice.  A course like that would allow you to move in the direction you would like with the option of continuing in Vet school.

Another idea might be Veterinary Homeopathy.

Thank you! I've looked up college programs here in New Orleans for Audubon zoo. I figured out which courses I had to take. Hopefully I can work with the big cats now that will be a dream come true for me. Very Happy
