Crystal Rune stones

I've got lots of polished pieces of various crystals and I was thinking of making my own runes. Any ideas of what tools to use to inscribe them ..... a "dremmel" drill / craft drill slips and I'd rather keep me fingers.   I was wondering about etching fluid ?   Has anyone used the stuff ?

Hi Kate,

Since you probably don't want to ruin your crystals, it may be worth finding a local lapidary club. They can teach you how to polish and carve crystals and stones using the right techniques and tools.

When you are practiced then you can make your runes.

However as each crystal has a different meaning or use, you would need to be careful which crystal you used for which rune.

My daughter has a lovely set made of stone that a friend's father sand blasted for her.  He is a professional sign maker so has access to the equipment he needs, but you might check around to see if you can find someone who would take it on.

I would practice with various inscribing tecniques on similar stones before actually making the runes with the final stones.  

  And if inscribing does not work you can always paint the runes on.
