Welcome!!  Very Happy  If your on your path alone i would choose to read Scott Cunningham. I read him when i first started a couple years ago and he explains everything very well. ~ Amber Star

Welcome Firecat.

Scott Cunningham's "Wicca: A Guide For the Solitary Practitioner" is a good place to start, but he was a bit of an unbalanced chap.  For example, in every one of his books, he insists that anything that harms anyone in any manner is to be thrown out the window.  He says that you should not commune with dark gods and goddesses.  Yet, an integral part of Wicca is to learn both the light and the darkness.  Nature is a balance between the two, and turning away every piece of information that deals with negative magic or dark gods leaves you with an unbalanced point of view.  I'm not saying that you are supposed to go around hexing people left and right, but you must remember that the Wiccan Rede does not instruct us to harm none.

"An' it harm none, do as ye will."

What this says is if you want to do something and it will cause no harm, then do not hesitate to do it.  If it may harm someone or yourself, think carefully before you act.  You cannot live without harming others in some form or another, and doing nothing is the greatest harm of all.

Check out this link on Wiccan ethics of curses and hexes and you'll better understand what I mean.

This link came from http://wicca.timerift.net , which I also recommend.  Blessed be and good luck.
