We just remodeled my grandparents 1900 home , so my mother could live there & she's been there about 2 weeks & has been having some strange happenings & has been awoken by something every night. So she cleansed the area with a sage smudge stick & did her usual white light visualization & that for the first time hasn't worked for her, because last night when she was lying in her bed trying to go to sleep , she felt a ominous presence & when she opened her eyes there was a green haze concentrated directly in front of  her face. She said she layed there trying to stay calm & mentally send it away , but it didn't so she just waited about 5 minutes & it finally just dissipated.. I will be going there sunday to see what I can do. I really need some  helpful suggestions or opinions PLEASE.. .....have any of you experienced this??? She said she feels very unwelcome in the house...
Thanks ,

Spirits are silly  sometimes aren't they? Some are certaily "stronger" than others, if this is a home that was previously owned by the spirit, then that could cause the cleansing's failure, sound's to me like your going to have to try to make contact. Find out why the spirit has become restless, could be it enjoyed the house as it was and the remodeling disturbed it. Or it could be in somesort of turmoil, there a host of reason's, you'll just have to make contact to see what's going on. The Future

This is a bit of a cop-out answer, but is there a different room that could be used for sleeping in?  I have experienced something like this, in my in-laws' house.

I happened to be sleeping in my partner's nan's bed, not long after she had died, and on two separate nights I was awakened by things which scare me to even think about.

I thought at the time it must be Nan, but it didn't seem right to think of her being that malicious.  I found out afterwards that when my partner slept in that room years ago, he had  disturbing hallucinations.  So I simply never slept in that room again.

Obviously, this won't always be a viable option, but it's a good short-term solution if the happenings are only at night!

Thanks  to you both  for the advice.  It may have been the remodeling  that made this spirit restless.....Maybe......tomorrow I will see what I can do....I have come up with a plan

When we bought our beach house, it had to be renovated in a serious way. The renovation dislodged the spirit who lived there.

Some of the local coven members, their children and me and the Rabbit did a rather plain ritual in and around the house banging pots and pans and saying bad ones be gone!

Afterwards, we held a welcoming ritual to friendly spirits in the house.

The house always had a spirit in residence as long as we lived there. Once "she" even joined in a ritual with us and a group of friends. Pulled up a chair and everything.

The house was a little "weird" most of the time. Like the phone would ring for no apparent reason. The weird part was it usually rang while I was talking ON IT.

I think your spirit is feeling put out. It probably has resided in the house for a very long time and here you went and changed things without consulting it. You'd be miffed too, wouldn't you?

Gryphon , I suppose you could be right......the house has been in the family since the time it was built....My Great ,Great Aunt & Uncle lived there from 1900-1940 (never personally knew them )  ...Then my Great Grand parents lived there until my papaw passed in 1998 & My mother then moved into the house to care for my Mamaw & about a year ago the Doc said Mamaw  HAD to go to a nursing home....so my Mom moved into an apartment until my Hubby & I could do the renovation. I felt a presence there while we were still working on the house , but I just went on with my business . I've always been aware of the spirits it this house & so has my mother & usually if we start to feel any negative energy we do a simple cleansing  & everything is  good to go for a while. She does not mind having spirits around her , but this one is very negative ..not to mention the fact that it isn't letting her sleep very well. It's a lot more in detail than what I could explain in writing. I just have to send this annoying spirit away :?   Flying Witch

I've read a bit about house-spirits recently.  There're many traditions relating to them: leaving them offerings, performing rituals to befriend them when moving into a new house.  People in some cultures are even so attached to their house-spirit that they try to take them with them when they move!

When I was house-hunting, there was one house I looked in which belonged to an elderly woman.  She didn't want to leave, but could no longer manage on her own and was moving in with her son.  The house was lovely, but it was still in the sixties - it entirely belonged to the old lady in every way.  We would not have been happy there without completely redecorating, and this just somehow felt so wrong that I couldn't bring myself to buy the house.

However, I think it's different with a house that's in the family - time does have to move on at some point!  Perhaps if you can come up with a ritual to make peace with the house, the spirits will quieten down.

Rani that is a very good idea !!...I didn't even think to do that!!...
I did do a simple ritual this morning @ the house before anyone showed up to the barbeque.....feels like the air in the house is better now , but I still know that the spirit is still there....It almost seems to want attention ....to be noticed.....??  I will definitely tell my mother of the Making peace idea....very  smart of you ....
 Thanks so much,

Shocked I said something useful???!!!? Shocked

I take the vibes I get from places very seriously - I always think it's important if you walk in somewhere and get a strong feeling, good or bad.

An interesting story I came across was a house some friends of mine live in.  They were engaged when they moved in, and all the neighbours told them that every couple who had ever lived there had broken up before long.  However, they stubbornly wanted the house so they moved in anyway.
Within a year, their relationship had fallen apart completely.  Despite this, they decided to stay in the house, with another friend who moved in, because financially it was simpler, and neither of them wanted to leave.  Four years on, they are all still very happy there (but in platonic relationships only!)
The conclusion we came to was that the house had a very strong personality, and wanted attention.  It was as if the house got jealous if the tenants loved each other more than they loved the house.
Seems a silly idea maybe?  But it makes sense to me.  I know that's completely irrelevant to you, Zaylyn, but I thought it was an interesting story while we were on house-spirits!
